Grades this part is tooled in
- Dry carbon
Prepreg, heat and pressure cured. Lightest and stiffest, finished twill or forged weave.
- Vacuum carbon
High-temperature vacuum forming under gloss clear coat. The volume carbon grade for hoods.
- FRP
Primed and paint-ready, where the hood is painted body color.
Five grades run through the same molds. Ask for the grade by name on the quote — it changes weight, finish on arrival and price band, not fitment.
Questions buyers ask
- Do I need hood pins?
- The factory latch transfers and holds the panel. Pins are a track-day requirement in many regulations and a sensible addition on a vented hood, but they are not needed for the panel to close correctly.
- Vented or OE-style?
- Vented if the car runs hot or sees track use — the openings let bay heat out and cut the pressure under the panel. OE-style if you want the factory shape and just the weight saving.
- Will rain get into the engine bay through the vents?
- Some will on most vented designs. Louvers are shaped to shed most of it, but a vented hood is not sealed and the bay should be treated accordingly.
- Does the factory insulation pad transfer?
- Where the vehicle has one, yes. Say on the enquiry if you need the mounting provision retained — it is easier to allow for it before the part is made.
